Smallbany Gallery is a miniature gallery and installation space that is focused on Albany and Capital Region artists (with occasional guest artists from further afield).
The space is 1/12 scale, meaning one inch looks like one foot when photographed. About the space and shows: This is a space to show work in a different way - Work small, think big! Shows in the gallery are a week long, and are attended virtually through photographs and videos shared on the website and Instagram. The space was built by and is run by artist and art educator Katherine Chwazik out of her home in Albany, NY. |
Mission Statement:
Smallbany Gallery presents an opportunity for artists to work creatively and in thought-provoking ways without spending large amounts of money, time, and space on a life-scale installation.
We're committed to doing as much as we can to benefit artists who show, while simultaneously working to remove barriers to showing engaging work. There is no submission fee, and no requirement for education. The gallery is a non-commission space and all sales are organized by (and benefit 100%) the artist.
Smallbany Gallery is committed to showing and supporting artists who are underrepresented by larger and more mainstream spaces - including artists of color, LGBTQ artists, and womxn artists.

Why "Smallbany"?
For those outside the Capital Region, this might seem like a weird name. "Smallbany" is an affectionate nickname for our relatively small city, and when we struggled to think of what to call our miniature gallery it eventually struck us as perfect. What else could we call a teeny gallery in Albany, NY?
